While I was with 4th grade, our team did a Technology Masters project. During this project, I planned and led multiple lessons integrating our project unit into math, writing, and reading lessons. One of my lesson sequences included defining technology, learning how people used the earliest forms of technology in San Diego, and finally creating our own future technologies that we think could improve our futures. Above are two students' technologies that they ideated with peers. You can see more student work, as long as learn more about our project on our Tech Masters website.
4th Grade Distance Learning CGI Discussion
This video highlights the discussion portion of a Cognitively Guided Instruction math lesson. Being in distance learning, we adjusted the instruction to discuss strategies from the day before's problem. CGI discussions help students see different perspectives of the same math problem. Students are able to bring in their own funds of knowledge to a CGI problem and solve the problem whichever way works best for them. This CGI discussion is student led, and helps all learners become comfortable sharing, asking questions, and thinking about different ways to be successful with math. Students are encouraged to try different strategies to expand their thinking and perspective after these discussions.
